This book was the result of a summer program with middle and high school students of the Mohican Nation who interviewed Elders living on the Reservation. One objective of the program, as articulated by a student participant, was that “to know our history is to know ourselves.” Bea Ganley, editor, wrote in her Afterword, “What they have accomplished together in a short time is more than this publication; there has been a bridge constructed across the generations, a bridge built of love and respect.” This book is proof that such bridges can be built in any community desiring to do so, and gives teachers a blueprint to follow with their students.
